Sponge filters

sponge filters are excelent for axolotls, allthough that one looks a bit small, the bigger the sponge the better. Remeber they have no mechanical filtration, so you will have to do the poop scooping yourself. They are gret for water quality though. Make sure you cycle it first :D

I got 2 setup in a 3ft and they are more than doing whats needed. should be groovy, but perhaps 3? Im going to setup my 6ft soon but im sucking on how many i wana put in if any.

Why can they manage without?

With more frequent water changes, certainly. I have 3 setup without filters who are doing exceptional also, but im doing like 3x changes instead of 1

Would this filter be ok with a tetra whisper air pump and if so what would be better for a 3ft tank a 40gal or 60gal this might be a silly question but ive never had a filter before so dont no much about them so any help would be appreciated ;)

So what sort of power would the air pump need to work one of these? I have a Eheim pickup 2008 at the momment inb a 2.5ft tank how many of these sponge filters would I need? also I sleep in the same room so I need it to be pretty quiet...

any powered air pump will do. The more powerfull, the more filtration.

for a 2.5 tank i'd say only one large one.

Thank you so much for your help youve been really hel;)pfull

Im the same there going to be kept in my bedroom so dont want anything loud ive been looking at the tetra whisper air pump i look on youtube at it and it sounds pretty quiet

I've just bought a couple of these from the eBay seller "sinedy" who ships out of HK at the grand total of £1.65 a piece although It will be at least two weeks if not a month before I receive them but at that price I don't mind :D

I have a Stellar air pump, and while it's not silent, the bubbles in the tank are louder.

The pump, about two feet away from me, I'd say it's about as loud as my laptop's internal fan.

I actually used to use a white noise machine at night, but I don't need it any more with the tank noises.

I have the single-sponge version of that filter. I must say, it's the noisiest sponge filter I've ever seen. There's something about the design of the air bubble outlet at the top that makes the bubbles bubble very loudly. It sounds like someone constantly smacking his lips.

I replaced the little elbow-shaped outlet with one from a different filter, and that made the thing shut up.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
