I was wondering if I could use sponge filters for my axolotls and I was also wondering if I could move my 2 axolotls to a 100 gallon tank?

Could I please get some input from someone soon.

I don't have any experience with sponge filters, but I have noticed that others use them, so you could always have a look at the forum section specifically on axolotl tanks, set ups and filters, and read through some of the previous posts to see if you can find some posts specifically relating to sponge filters.
I'm quite new to axolotl keeping, and (as I mentioned) I don't have those filters, but going through the other posts might save you from waiting for a more experienced keeper to respond.

As for tank size, I have 3 axolotls in a 200L (approx. 50 G) tank. No reason why you can't move yours to a larger tank as they do like to have a walk around. Flor space is more important than depth of water.

I hope that helps.

I have had 3 different style filters. I prefer a sponge filter for low current. Most people how breed small fish and shrimp use them. Small fish/shrimp won't get sucked into filter. Your tank will cycle the same way as if you where using any other filter. It is safe for your axolotl and newt. I don't know a lot about axolotls. I won't use any other filter with my newts. Newts do not like current/moving water. I have the same spong that came with my filter still looks good. Its 8 months old. I just squeeze it in some old tank water and its good to go. Make sure your sponge filter can handle over 100 gallons. If that's the size tank you put it in. You can use 2 of them. Then if you decide to cycle another tank. You will have sponges with good bacteria to use in uncycled tanks. Cuts cycling time down to about a week. In my case with ten gallon took 2 day's to cycle with old filter.

I love sponge filters. I don't have one in my axie tank yet but I'm planning on getting one. I like the dual sponge style. When I get a new filter I can take one of the sponges off the filter in the already cycled tank and swap it with one of the sponges on the new filter. Bam! Fast cycling in the new tank. Plus little creatures don't get sucked into them so they are far safer.
