Split-tailed Rhyacotriton cascadae

Here is a pretty cool find from my last herping session. This is a Rhyacotriton cascadae with an akmost double tail.

We also find a nice-sized Dicamptodon tenebrosus.

That's some crazy stuff right there. Do you know if it has always had that?
 
Hey, Jacob, it probably has not, but since this was out in the field it is hard to know for sure. More than likely, the tail received some sort of trauma a while back and even though it didn't lose the original tip of the tail, the trauma was extensive enough to cause the "second" tail to start growing.
 
Will the tail grow bigger? If it does definately post more pics. Those are awesome pics.

cool, i found a red back salamander with a split tail thissummer, I didnt have a camera though
 
That's one sweet salamander, and i like the giant a lot too. Where in WA did you find them?
 
That happens with some of my axolotls, they'll get a bite to the arm and it will only remove a chunk of skin, but fingers and extra arms can grow in places with the damage.
