YAY! and he seems to like it. he wandered around for a while, then took a dip in his bowl. he did lots of exploring, some digging, climbing around his log ( the stump wont fit) its funny to watch him walk and climb, and not swim.

we had a black bag taped on his tank when he was aquatic ( back when we thought he was an Axie) to keep it dark, and when we put that back on he was acting really weird so we took it off.
did he think he was still underground and trying to dig out? he can stand completely on his tail and claw at the glass with all 4 feet! we dont know if he was trying to dig out, or climb out of the tank!
we had no idea his tail was that strong that it could hold him up!!
we took the bag off just in case. i wonder about putting it back on, or using a white one? or even one of those aquarium scene cling things... whats best?

he's completely buried himself under the substrate- no evidence of him at all! he's a good hider. how does he breathe under there? since he is nocturnal, i dont expect to see him much today, yet i hope he is fine under there.

we had no idea salamanders were so fun! he is very happy being on the land and i am happy that he is happy!
i'll get some pics of him and his new tank layout and post them for you.

any ideas how to get the dirt (for lack of a better word) that he hauls in, out of his water bowl?

thanks for all your help!
pics to come-when i can stop watching him long enough to get the camera. he's just fascinating!

1. Black background on a side of a tank can be used if desired, it may give the tiger a sense of security, if you will. However, most importantly is to keep the tank out of direct sunlight. They will burrow when they want to retreat so a black side covering isn't necessary. A white background would defeat the purpose.

2. Metamorphosed tigers use a combination of mechanisms to breathe: They breathe through their skin which is permeable to gaseous transport (O2 and CO2) and through their lungs (buccal, mouth and nares).

3. Their water bowls need to be cleaned any time it becomes soiled. Just empty the bowl, rinse it out and fill with treated water or bottled spring water.
