Hi all! I am totally new with salamanders and this site has been such a great help. Even after searching the site and forum like crazy, I have a few basic questions. First - what kind of Salamander do you think this is? (sorry for horrible pics).
He was found in Kentucky (Bardstown - Central Kentucky area) around late April in a small rock pool on the side of a fast moving, clean stream. My niece brought it back with her and after having had snakes and other fun pets and being the most qualified, haha, I am taking over =)
He was found as a small larvae with gills. He has been eating brine shrimp and blackworms since he had gills, and has been doing great. He started morphing just a few days ago and now seems to be completely earth bound. With this comes the question - What should his set-up be like and what to feed him now that he isn't hunting the the few inches of water? I guess knowing his species would help greatly. Since morphing he has not seemed hungry at all and being only 2.5" inches, I think too small for earthworms unless I can find really small ones.
Any guesses on species, set-ups and food would be SO appreciated!
