Hello folks!

I am in process of revising my thesis on Neuregus kaiseri. OK, to be truthful I am on the 26th revision of the first part...

Anyway, this section covers the known history of the species in captivity and sets the stage for the reason for the research. In this case, why I was inspired to exhaustively research captive husbandry of a relatively new species to the pet-trade.

Anyway, duing my process I found a huge gaping chasm of a hole in my data. We all know that initial captive breeding success was in Germany...or was it? I realized this afternoon, I need to do some serious digging in the German newt and salamander geek forums over there.

The problem I have is that even with localization and language preference turned off, Google and Bing make finding overseas, non-English data hard to find. I even tried duping Google and their annoying algorithms by setting my computer up to an address in Germany I know (A US air force base...)

SO, in short- can anyone here provide a hyperlink to the sites or sites where this species has been discussed over the years? Or perhaps even contact information for some of the originals... In this context, information linking to hobbyists rather than published folks would be ideal...unless they are one in the same.

Thanks in advance!

There is a newt and salamander group on fb, lots of serious breeders/hobbyists from the EU are on it. If you pm me your full fb name I will add you to the group, they may be able to link you up.

Thanks folks!

Sadly, I am not a fan of facebook groups, but thank you for the offer. Odds are I am already on the list anyway.

Salamanderland also has copies of Gunther Schultschik's publications for free download:
Verffentlichungen

I can point you in the direction of Schmidtler & Schmidtler's 1975 paper if you don't have this already.

Did you know you can ask google for results from a specific country? For example, for results only from Germany:
http://www.google.com/#q=neurergus+kaiseri&cr=countryDE

The list of countries available is here:
https://developers.google.com/custom-search/docs/xml_results?hl=en#countryCollections

You can also bias by language- for (mostly) German language pages:
http://www.google.com/#q=neurergus+kaiseri&hl=de

Try this site: AG Urodela

It's from a German work group specialised in newt and salamanders. They organise a anual international meeting in Gersfeld each year (I'm going!!). They've got a forum as well. I believe there should be members here on caudata.

Thanks for all the input folks! I have sent out a ton of e-mails, and even gotten a few replies. I wonder how many years, and how many papers I can get out of the enormous amount of data I seem to be collecting...

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
