can anyone advise me on a good book on the amphibians of the iberian peninsula?
Btw the book Serge advised me was brilliant so to give you an idea I'm looking for something similar.
Cheers

Hi Franchesco, the book "Los anfibios de España" of Ministerio de Agricultura, Pesca y Alimentación (1.985) written by Mario Garcia Paris, is a good book. Another book, "Los anfibios y reptiles de Madrid" of Agencia Medio Ambiente of Madrid is a good book too, but related to the Madrid area.

Yep, I agree, but both books are rather old. I'll have to look in my shelfs to see which ones I have, I have bought a lot of the books that have come out on Spain. By the way; the Atlas of Portgual written by Malkmus is also very nice...and there is a new by Portugese herpetologists written up dated book in progress that is planned to appear this year!

what about this one:
Distribución y biogeografía de los anfibios y reptiles en España y Portugal (Monograf¸ás de Herpetolog¸á) 1997
I found it flicking through amazon

It is more or less good in the reference of distribution,(in my opinion, there are very default in the north distribution almost) but the another two what I said are better in desarrollo, photos and habitat

Pleguezuelos : Distribución y biogeografía de los anfibios y reptiles en España y Portugal (Monografiás de Herpetologiá) 1997 is sold out unfortuantely.....
There is a relatively new title:
Salvador & García París: Anfibios españoles. Canseco editores. Talavera de la Reina (2001). Which I think is a good choice.
Another "new" title covering the whole iberian herpetofauna is: Barbadillo et al: Anfibios y Reptiles de la Península Ibérica, Baleares y Canarias. Geo Planeta; Barcelona (1999).
For the price a good choice, too.

And of course the standard title (unfortunately not yet in my library...

):
Garcia Paris et al: Fauna Iberica: Amphibia. Madrid, 2004.
I can only judge from the reptiles volume which ist PERFECT.... ;-)

Hope this helps
Michael

I must say that the Salvador - Paris book is rather disappointing, I would not recommend it. And the 1997 book is more or less adapted in the red list book that you can download for free...so... I still need to check my book shelfs...

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
