Hi guys,

Been sorting through all the threads and articles, And I need some clarification on the salt baths. But let me start from the beginning.

My CFB newt starting having sores on his tails last sunday. After doing some research I finally tried to dab betadine on the sores and tried the salt bath. But how is a salt bath done actually? He had what I think a seizure when I placed him on the solution and almost died. and it wasn't even 2 min.

So now his sores are still there, and although he doesn't look weak, he is not eating and is quite thin now. Currently I am placing him on wet paper towels and placing him on low temp. Not sure if the sores are still growing but the 1mm tip of his tail just came off a while ago.

Any advise would be deeply appreciated.

Hi there, I know you asked me in a previous thread what I did to handle sores. So like you said you had taken a look at all the articles dealing with treatment- therefore you will know how to make a proper salt solution; therefore I won't waste time explaining the part. So what I did was first take sterile water, dab a Q-tip and lightly dab the wound. Getting a new Q-tip I would then dip it in the salt solution and repeat by dabbing the wound. The last step I did was apply some antibiotic polysporin that did not have any pain relief additives. I also kept my 2 animals in the fridge for at least a week.

I'm not sure if you have polysporin available in your country, the US brand is called neosporin, I'm assuming you should have something similar. And I agree, keep on moist paper towel for now.

Good luck.

ok thanks for the reply Kay, will try dabbing the wounds with the solution. and will research the equivalent of that anti biotic you used.

btw how long do you leave them in the fridge?

I left mine in the fridge for about a week, but for your case, I would suggest longer, I wouldn't remove from the fridge unless you started seeing marked improvement in the wound, I.e it started healing or reducing in size.

I'm not sure what other types are out there, but im sure you can find something. Look at your local pharmacy for something that is used for small cuts and scrapes.

by the way, during that period, where they eating? My CFBN has not been eating for almost 10 days

well, my newt died. sigh.:(. placed him in the fridge for like 10 min next thing I know he's dead.
