Hello. Last spring was my first time hatching salamander eggs, and I noticed in the tank I was growing them in that some became sluggish and moved very slowly on the surface. A few days later I saw what appeared to be visible bubbles bulging from their stomaches. This really got me worried and sure enough those larvae died shortly afterwards. As for the rest of the larvae, I released them in a pond as soon as I could. This spring I hope to find an answer and prevent this from happening again, so any feedback would help. Thanks.

*P.S. I was growing the larvae because the vernal pool I get the eggs from always dries up before anything can finish developing.

Inside, about a 40 gallon container, water was about 5 inches deep, some aquatic plants were in the container if they wanted shelter, and the food was whatever small creatures were swimming in the container from pond skimming, nothing bigger than the larvae though.
