Last week I found this vulgaris female in my garden:

This was the inspiration for me to visit my favourite pond, in Ratingen, North Rhine Westphalia to take some Triturus shots. Here an older picture of the pond:

I found this light coloured alpestris female:

Made a shot of this vulgaris male:

And a helveticus male.
Look at the hind leg:

Nice shots, Paul. Remind me of the early years of my obsession.

Wonderful pictures! Like the webbed foot on the male. These newts are fabulous, esp in breeding dress. Thanks.

by far my favourite group of caudates! some excellent shots there!

Some years ago I also found larvae of Triturus cristatus. So this week I visited the pond again in the dusk:

But did not find any cristatus. So I made some shots of this helveticus female:

Hello guys:

Also a lot of Salamandra salamandra terrestris larvae in this pond:

And I found this larva of a dragonfly; Aeshna cyanea I think - is here an expert? I think this larvae will eat a lot of the Urodela larvae.
