Some questions...

After years and years of not having any reptiles/amphibians, me and my girlfriend have decided we wanted to get something. Story goes on...we have a 30-40 gallon tank and went to the pet store to try to see what we might want. final outcome came to something like anoles, green grass snakes, geckos, and a paddle tailed salamander. in the store they had the PTS with fire bellied toads, and the person working there didnt know much about it.

luckily, we read the 'horrible experiences' portion, and decided that we ARE NOT going to get salamanders and frogs. what we are thinking of as a possibility is having a mixed environment (half aqua, half land) and keeping anoles and snake (anyone know if THIS is a bad idea?) and the water possibly getting the salamander. Is this a bad idea?

you are really in the wrong place to ask about reptiles, this is a newts and salamanders only website.

No is the answer to your question, never mix species, especially species from different parts of the world. All snakes eat meat, you would find if you kept an anole and a snake together then the anole would be gone fairly quickly, also if you get a grass snake it will go into the water and eat the salamander, it will then be poisoned by the salamander and then you will have lost all three specimens, if you didn't know grass snakes hunt in the water a lot more then you would think. another thing would be the temperature ranges that these species live in, most newts and salamanders as well as grass snakes need a cool, temperate temperature range while i'm pretty sure that all anoles are tropical animals.

i would really read all of the Caudata Culture FAQs, they will help you decide if you get a salamander or a reptile. i would visit http://www.kingsnake.com/

they deal with reptiles as well as amphibians.
