Meet Hortense and Chewie!

I got these two about two months ago. They were freshly hatched from a local breeder I found on craigslist. I never had Axies before, so it was a shotgun learning experience. I got to hatching brine shrimp and fed them daily. Here's what they looked like the day I got them - about the size of a large grain of rice.. This pic is when I got them on January 14

Here is a video when they were eating baby brine shrimp:

And last I have a video from yesterday of them wrangling some black worms!

That's where they're at now! To tell you the truth, I'm surprised they've made it this far!!! When I first got them and saw how big they were - I didn't think there was any way they'd make it. I am happy they did!!!!

Can't wait till they get a little bigger!

I have a lot of reading to do!

The February 16th pictures are SO adorable I want to steal them >_<

Very cute. Might think about snipping the blackworms a tad ;)

They've gotten bigger! They seem to have no problems scarfing down a full grown black worm, so I will keep them on it.. I think it helps grow their muscles when they need to wrestle their dinner first! Hahahaa

Chewie eats noticeably more than Hortense. He's always got a fat brown belly. I try to stick worms right in Hortense's nose for him.

Good stuff.. Can't wait to see how they grow.

Awe I have to admit they sure are adorable. Thanks for sharing the vids of them eating. It's really fascinating to watch.

Hortense died!! :(

I woke up this morning and he was dead. He was always a lot smaller than Chewie even though they were brothers. He barely ate too.. Maybe he was unhealthy to start?

Poor guy.

I gave Chewie a complete water change and fed him. He seems to be happy still.

RIP Hortense.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
