Like somebody asked me, i show my tanks... After my Caudata, their housing ^^
These tanks are primarily functional. So it's not always aesthetic...
Pictures are not very good too...

If you have any question, i'll try to answer it !

PS : Sorry, I still use the olds names...

Thank you very much for taking the time to present your tanks, I appreciate it a lot and it might have given me some ideas :)

I am always a fan of the natural/functional tanks over the aesthetic ones! Great looking tanks!

Do you have a divider in the kweichowensis tank? Or just a transition with the drainage layer.

Thanks for sharing!

Mitch

Thanks :)

I have no divider in this tank, it's just a transition with flat stones, briks, tile, and a drainage layer (5cm).
The left part is always very moist.
When I fill it with water, the substrate at right becomes moist. But if the newts go up, there are dry hiding places.

those look like lovely tanks full of thriving plants and fat newts :) Very nice!

Very nice tanks, thanks for posting the pictures.
What is the plant growing through the water surface in photo #4 (60x30x30, for 3.0 Cynops e. ensicauda) please?

I believe the one in the back is a Tradescantia, Eva. I got a surrepticious seed from Chris and it´s now growing fast, i had to trim it not long ago. I think it´s going to become one of the favorites in my list (along with my new obsession for Hydrocotyle sp.). They are pretty too, the leaves have a wonderful purplish colour when seen against the light.

The other plant, that grows along the side, i have no idea what it is, but it looks great too.

Ludwigia palustris

I thought it might be Ludwigia. That would ideal because I already have this one even though it's never grown through the surface like this. Hopefully it will now in my new Walstad type tank, I think the newts would like it as much as me

Tradescantia is quite a common house plant I think, it might be good for my island. I am going to try some Hydrocotyle on it first - I can get H. leucocephala or verticillata - is either one better suited to grow emersed? And would moist substrate be enough for it to grow on land or does it need more marshy conditions?

I have both Hydrocotyle species. H. verticillata is probably better for emersed growth as it has smaller leaves and grows more densely. H. leucocephala has much longer creepers and doesn't form such a dense carpet. H. verticillata does best with a small amount of soil, though (sand/garden soil mix works very well). Both species need quite a lot of light to do well.

Sorry for the late reply !
But anyway I didn't know the name of this plant... Thanks Eljorgo ^^
Indeed this plant need a very good light, a week with a low light and all my plants died...
