My cynops pyrrhogaster named seven is against all odds getting better.
He was donated to me by a petshop when 6 of 7 newts had died of bloat, he looked to be in quite bad shape when I got him. He was kind of greyish and shed skin in patches all over, he withdrew as far away from the water as possible, didnt move for days and refused to eat.

Now he is black again(I suppose he started out as black...) have stopped shedding and started eating for the first time in about two weeks. Looks normal somewhat skinny though and still a bit shy but he is getting there!

I would say that the water went bad, spread bacteria that resulted in kidney damage causing oedema. Kidneys are in general very sensitive to toxins due to the great flow of blood through them. Just guessing about what happened though, I dont really have a clue

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
