Hi,
my little babies hatched about 4 weeks ago now. I have 4 that are growing really well (over 3cms now) and they have just started eating blackworms i cut up, but I also have one baby who has not really grown at all! it's still around 1cm. I have separated it and have it in a cup, but now that my other guys are eating worms i'm not sure if its worth continuing with the other little guy, as he is so small he can only eat brine shrimp.
Is it normal for it to be soo much smaller than the others?
If it is normal for some to grow a lot slower, i'll continue to hatch brine shrimp for it, but if it's abnormal and probably wont survive anyway then should i euthanize it now?

Any advice would be appreciated

I read somewhere on this forum that it is normal for Axies all out of the same clutch of eggs to all grow at different rates. I am not sure if I am right on this, but I would try and continue to feed him and see if he gets bigger. Some Axies just grow slower than others

Hope others can help you further.

Hi Belinda, i am currently attempting to raise my first batch of babies and i probably should have just tried raising a few instead of all of them, lol, oh well i have about 50 now and they are all growing at different rates, i have some that are about 3.5 cm and some that are 1.5cm.i Feed black worms aswell. Give the little guy a chance, he just may have not been quick enough for food with the others around.

Yeah id give him a chance too. i had 2 larvae that just stopped growing for some reason. they were around 4 months old and were only an inch long. i moved them into a larger tub with deeper water and fed bloodworm to them both and they have shot up in size over the last couple of weeks.

I would give it a chance Belinda

Our larvae are growing at different rates...they have been hatching since 11/8.
Keeping it separate from the bigger larvae will surely give it the opportunity to eat sufficient - survive.
You might want to look at the following site; http://www.axolotl.org/rearing.htm
Larvae never grow at the same rate, so it is advisable to divide them up according to size once they begin to reach about 2 cm in length.

O.K. thanks, i will definitely keep feeding him/her, i just wasn't sure cause it's so tiny :)

They grow at different rates, most definitely.

I had 500, all growing at different rates and I sometimes had to make hard decisions about what to do with the very small or unenergetic ones.
