I want to get a large slab of stone to cover the bottom. Will that be okay for an axolotl and what kind is best? I'm thinking either slate or maybe petrified wood, depending on what my local hardware store has... Anyone with experience?

I don't have my axie yet but I am planning on purchasing it soon! My tank has been cycled and tests are good!

Slate is good, but you'll need to lift it every couple of months and clean underneath.

Siliconing slate down with an aquarium safe silicone works as well, but is a lot more permanent than some other options and will make the tank a lot heavier if you ever have to move it.
