SoCal Trip

Hi Russ, good stuff. BTW, I went to school in Julian. Never ever found any lugubris around Ramona or going up higher into the mountains, despite tons of perfect-looking habitat. Always found that strange.

Well, they're documented around Ramona, and I've "heard" that they've been found on Volcan. But lugubris always seem hit or miss, either you see them right away or you don't see them at all. You probably would know some of the exact spots I stopped at.

Volcan eh? I only found Ensatina and Batrachoseps on Volcan as well. Pretty cool to think lugubris are there, it's a fantastic mountain.

I'm originally from the San Diego area and I have found lugubris in the Ramona area and at the base of Mount Palomar. Nice pictures. I hope to get back down there soon.

I've only piddled a little along the way up to Palomar, but I've always assumed lugubris was there based on the habitat. Next time out I will put a little more emphasis on it.

Palomar is a very cool area. Not only can you find Arboreals there but Monterys at the base, Large-Blotched at the top and Montery-Large-Blotched hybrids in the middle. I also know of at least one amel Large-Blotched that came off of the mountain.I've also found Garden Slenders too.In the past I've also seen Californian Red-Legged Frogs and Mountain Yellow-Legged Frog. Unfortunately that is not possible any more.
