Hi, It has been quite a while since I posted, I lost both my beutiful axies earlier in the year to the heat wave we had, I was very upset and havent bought another since, although I have been looking, I was in the pet shop yesterday having a look around when I looked into the axie tank and seen a lot of eggs about the place, I asked what they do with the eggs and the lady said that they will most likey not survive, she said she tried to raise some last time and they were quite difficult, I asked could I buy some and try to raise them, she said I could try, wow I couldnt believe my luck, now to try and get them to survive, I am not sure how many she has given me roughly about 30 I think, she seems to think they are about 1 and 1/2 weeks old, I have set up a jar with an air stone and salt water and I am trying a test batch of bbs, so far so good.
I have a photo, can anyone tell from this photo roughly how long until they hatch? also they all appear to be white, does color pigment start later or are they all going to be light coloured, any help would be apprechated.

sorry the photo is not real clear, hard to focus onto something so small.

Hi Cathy,

From the looks of things I'd expect them to hatch in about 4-5 days depending on the temperature (warmer = faster).
Here's a link to a great day-by-day photolog of egg development: http://www.axolotl.org/embryo_series.htm

Going by the colour, I'd say that Mum is definitely an albino of some sort, You might see some pigmentation that looks like muddy splotches start to develop over the next couple of days, indicating something else in the mix but it's too early to tell for sure at this stage.

Good luck with them, I've got a bit over 100 little larvae growing up and munching out on Daphnia and BBS at the moment - lots of work, but great fun :D

Thank you so much Frank for the reply, It sure is interesting to watch them develope, from the photo log I estimate they are at day 8 or 9 stage, still gives me a couple of days playing around with the baby brine shrimp,

I dont know they look pretty developed to me i;m sure mine hatched not far off that. Mine did develop pretty quickly this time round possibly due to the warm weather

I agree with mel they do look quite developed and looking at the colours you might have a batch of baby albinos.
Good luck with this latest adventure. Keep us posted.

Any hatchlings yet? I would reckon any second now lol

Hi Guys, Yes I have had some hatchlings, 16 so far to be exact, I am worried as my bbs didnt work, I have another batch on, but I hope I dont have a dodgy batch, I have the salt water airated, I am going to start another thread to see if anyone can help.

Wow how exciting, you will have a few days breathing space from hatching hopefully.
Just enough time to get another batch on the go!
Good luck!!

If your little guys need food before the baby brine shrimp hatch, you can try feeding them frozen baby brine shrimp. Mine do well with frozen baby brine shrimp, but I also feed them live bbs as well. Good luck with the little hatchlings.

Thankyou all so much for the replys, I have 31 babies and I am currently feeding them very very small creatures from my dam, I still have had no luck with the bbs, I cut up black worm really small, I am not sure whether they actually ate any, I have a couple of more batch's of bbs on the go, if these still do not work then I will be assuming its a dodgy batch. I cant believe how attached that you get to the little guys, I can watch them for ages even though they may not even more, I think its just that, watching & waiting to see them move, that is whats appealing.
I will try and get some pictures soon.
