Snake Snare Snaps Spines
Device Designed to Decapitate

As if the general public’s view on snakes were not already bad enough, a
company called SnakeSnare, LLC, in Iowa has taken it to the next level.
"SnakeSnare" is a device designed to intentionally decapitate wild snakes.

"SnakeSnare" is marketed on the internet and promotes use in areas like
neighborhoods and golf courses, "Where gunfire is impractical or illegal." The
website mentions that the product "can" capture a snake for relocation, but is
actually designed for "instant decapitation."

The marketing of the product seems to promote extermination of wild snakes,
and the site actually quotes the old adage "a good snake is a dead snake."

If you would like to voice your concerns about this product and it’s marketing
objectives, please see their website at

www.snakesnare.com

and voice your concerns.

Pass this info along to everyone you know in the herp community. Let's start sending emails and snail mail to this guy who sells a such a inhumane item.

I don't know about shooting ,but this is just something I found on the internet and thought was horrible and wanted to let others know.

This is the message I just sent them...

Hello,
As I live in Canada and snakes are protected wildlife I think it would be impractical for me to use this product for it's intended purpose. I was wondering if you had some model with a larger loop for the decapitation of kittens as my neighbors kittens are what I would consider "nuisance" animals. It is true that I can't legally use fire arms in the city limits and leg hold traps and clubbing have come under scrutiny as of late. Since cats are of ZERO ecological importance compared to snakes I would be within my rights to dispatch them with your product right?

Please get back to me with pricing on a custom "kitten snare" and anything else I might need to know about your product.

This type of thing sickens me but there is little I can do as a citizen of another country. I will post this link in several other forums and send it to us wildlife groups. The extermination of wildlife for no other reason than "it bugs me" or "it's scary" is intolerable to me...

btw. I eat meat.

in britain it is illegal to kill or harm of our 4 native species, however you can harm 4 of our 6 amphibians

I was particularly disgusted by the fact that they have snake recipes and that there are people who condone such horrible behaviour. I remember watching a documentary about this festival in Texas where hundreds of rattle snakes are skinned and gutted while they are still alive in front of a large, enthusiastic audience.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Am aghast William that people can legally harm 2/3 of our native amphibians

i know i hate it too, the natterjack toad and crested newt, (bufo calamita and triturus cristatus) are the only species with full protection. it is a real shame

Ed, yeah that's probably it. I like the part where they say:

"Make sure that you don't miss out on the numerous vendors located at both in the inside and outside flea markets, carnival, and The Gun, Knife and Coin show being offered as well. Our community tries to offer something for everyone this weekend."

Well they sure to offer something for every one... Well everyone who's a hick!

I'm glad that all Washington's reptiles and amphibians are protected, but sadly this doesn't and won't stop people from killing them.

I think there's still a bounty on poisonous snakes here in Georgia.....

Wouldn't it require a hunting / fishing / trapping license to use this thing?

Sorry I don't know if it would require a hunting/fishing license since it's not legal here.

No snake killer killing devices? JK. I'm about to send them an e-mail righ tnow.

That really disgusts me. I sent the company an email telling them just that.

  • Katia Del Rio-Tsonis:
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
