Following the thread of legal action being taken against Swamp People, I urge people to comment on this video and the facebook page for the show Killer Karaoke. Here's why:

Killer Karaoke - Singing, Snakes, and Steve-O - YouTube

Common terrestrial species of snakes known for being kept as pets are thrown into a vat of deep, ice cold water. Anyone see a problem with throwing buckets of cold blooded animals into ice water, then throwing a girl in with them? I do.

Here's their facebook page:

I hope legal action is taken against them. This is very clear and blatant abuse, and also puts the woman in more danger because of the possibility of getting struck by extremely freaked out snakes.

UUUUGH!! I hate Hollywood.

Wow, this is unbelievable. And all for publicity. Just because an animal doesn't have fur doesn't mean it can't feel pain.

As others have said in the comments, if it were buckets of kittens everybody would be up in arms about it.

I wonder what the breeder has to say about all of this...

The breeder is not known. I expect they came from multiple sources. Here's another video, there are multiples of the stunt. This one also has small alligators, I'm not sure if they were present in the previous video.

Here is some information posted on another forum.

If you are not friends with Urban Jungles-Radio I would friend them. Someone named Robert Walter has been commenting on their posts about this. Apparently he was there and helped but refused to supply any of his animals for this. Urban Jungles Radio has said they will be talking with him during their show on Friday night.

According to Robert there is more to this story than is immediately apparent. He has stated that this was apparently filmed 2 years ago (not sure I believe that). He has also stated that the water was not freezing cold, but actually luke warm. I didn't notice any ice, but he said that a few ice cubes were used, but mostly fake stage ice was used. Contestants were instructed to act as if the water was cold, which I honestly think they did a poor job of. I didn't get the impression that the water was cold. He also stated that some fake snakes were mixed in. I do believe that Robert was there because someone recognized him in one of the clips, but I can't verify that anything he has said is true.

All of that being said, I want to make it known that I in no way support this. I think it was a ridiculous stunt, especially since I've seen a clip where there are also two alligators swimming around in the mix, but I do think it is possible that a lot of what people are so upset about is simply the dramatization typical of "reality" TV.

Even if this statement is true - which I haven't verified because I did not see the information elsewhere other than the facebook page of Urban Jungles stating they were interviewing the handler - this is still incredibly dangerous for the snakes. Minus cold water, it is still much too deep for them, and the live alligators combined with the snakes is just plain not right. They're still obviously stressed.

Killer karaoke has posted a disclaimer on Facebook saying they consulted the producers and no animals were "harmed" in the filming.

Because stress isn't harm.

There has also been a post saying they consulted PETA beforehand and they gave an ok.

Because we know how much PETA knows and cares about reptiles.

It's BS, and they can't pass off animal abuse so easily.

To any who are still interested in this matter, Urban Jungles Radio interviewed a stunt animal provider for Killer Karaoke as well as Fear Factor and other shows. He claims not to have provided snakes for these particular stunts, though this handler was present for the stunt and was identified as one of the people dumping snakes into the water. When asked about his physical involvement in dumping the snakes in, he blows off the interviewers.

It's about 45 minutes in where the segment starts, if people want to skip the other interview.

When I saw the promo, that's the same thing that crossed my mind! Are some of those snakes pythons? That's terrible. :(

Various species of pythons and other snakes. I can pick out small burmese, cornsnakes, royals, Red tail boas, and possibly other snakes. It is awful. I watched later videos to realize it didn't just stop at reptiles- they vilify pit bulls and make them crazed, as well as do other things to other animals. PETA isn't going after the show because Steve-O is one of their biggest celebrity supporters, not to mention the fact that tv stations get away with clearly illegal things all the time - I could name a dozen shows that feature illegal acts.

What??? They consulted PETA?? Are you *%·$&&·· kidding me???
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArrrrrrghhhhh.............
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........
PETA are the opposite of an authority on animal welfare. You check with the fricking LAWS in your country, not with a bunch of bloody morons who know nothing about what they are talking about...NOTHIIIIIIIING!!!!

I´m off to punch something....

Have to agree, this is the wiki entry for PETA ,it is backed up by numerous other sources People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My favorite quote
"PETA's operation of animal shelters has drawn criticism. In 2008, the Center for Consumer Freedom formally petitioned Virginia's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, requesting official reclassification of PETA as a slaughterhouse. The CCF claimed in a press release that "(a)n official report filed by PETA itself shows that the animal rights group put to death nearly every dog, cat, and other pet it took in for adoption in 2006."[64] A spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Agriculture responded that "PETA will basically take anything that comes through the door, and other shelters won't do that," and that it had considered changing PETA's status from "shelter" to "euthanasia clinic."[65]"
I do not understand how this organization have reached their level of recognition with such a horrendous track record.

Easy, endorsement from public figures and appeals to emotion.
What i cannot fathom is how on earth we´ve come to the point where PETA are the people you consult with when there´s an animal welfare issue. That´s just insane. You don´t consult with a bunch of ignorant, emotion driven hippies on important matters...their OPINION is absolutely meaningless. You consult with official organisms that work with FACTS.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
