Smoke and Sex

I have to share my lab with a tutor that smokes cigarettes (in the lab/office).

I'm beginning to suspect that his smoking is the reason my axos won't spawn: out of 3 attempts, only one success.

last year he was on sabbatical and the axos spawned fine, then this year they refused both in the fall and spring. they did great during the month-long winter break (when of course i didn't need them to spawn) during which he was not in the office (therefore no smoke.)

Does anyone have documentation or even anecdotal evidence of similar problems (failure to breed, failure to thrive, death, illness, etc because of cigarette smoke in area) with axolotls, other amphibians, or fish?

I'm lobbying to get my own room

I haven't heard of anything like that, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the cause.

Caudates in general are pretty sensitive to chemicals, and cigarette smoke sure has its share of chemicals. It wouldn't surprise me at all.
