I have a heater/cooler in my fire bellied newt tank it has green slime or moss or something
i don't know if i should clean it off or what:confused: please help

Hey,
I am not a big Chiller/Heater expert but seeing the water will travel through the chiller/heater the slime may contaminate the water in the tank. In the short term i would clean the slime off the chiller and clean the chiller once per week but if the slime continues there is a thing called slime-off (or something like that). And it may get rid of the invisible bacteria.

Hope i helped...

Before you do anything, the green slime you have might just be algae.
Post a picture if you can.
Algae isn't bad or harmful for your newts, It just doesn't look pretty ;).
That "slime-off" product shouldn't be used to remove the slime because it might be harmful to the newts, I'm not 100% sure its dangerous so don't quote me on that.
But what you have is not harmful, you can wipe it off but you don't need to take apart your tank.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

in my opinion Bowl of Seeds is right. It´s only algae and by using a slime-off product your bellies could become ill. Please don´t use it before you identified this slime.

kc - without knowing a bit more about the setup and the type of slime, it's hard to give any advice. What is a heater/cooler? I don't think I've ever seen a device that is both (but I haven't seen everything under the sun).

If the slime is algae, it's OK to just wipe it off. I agree with Bowl and callina, don't add any chemicals to the tank to try to deal with it - they could do more harm than good.
