Question: Slate tile

Yes, that would work.
Here in spain it´s called "pizarra" (i suposse it´s the same in argentina, but perhaps not), you might have luck searching with that name.
Good luck, it´s a very practical substrate and personally i find it very aesthetic.

I think it's called "laja" here hehehe

Another point to consider is the weight, I am planning a 200 litres tank...

So you can use a slate tile as a substrate for the axolotls? I didnt know that, would that help keep the tank cooler?

I'm not sure about that, but if you don't use any substrate (because of the gravel issue), it would be something for the animal to grip as it walked along the bottom of the tank.

Does anyone know of any reasons why regular ceramic tile would not be usable in this case? Would there be any glazes to watch out for? There are some beautiful floor tiles at my home store, and I think my wild type boy would look much nicer with a light background.
