first off im piossed at petco for the way theyre keeping their newts (in a tank filled to the brim with water no floating islands or anything!)
my brand new cynops orientalis is extremely skinny. ive been feeding her both live and frozen blood worms and HBH salamander bite, do you guys recomend anything else?

What you have been feeding is a good staple for now. Just keep up a feeding routine and slowly bring your newt back up to a healthy weight. Try to avoid over feeding the newt. Dont give in to the fear of the newt starving. As long as its eating a little bit every day or two, I wouldnt worry. Once you get the newt up to a healthy weight, you shouldnt have to feed it more than 2 or 3 times a week. If you want a little variety, you can take small troutworms or earthworms and cut them up to small pieces.

As for the way pet stores keep their animals, you have to remember they are in it for the money and nothing else. There have been many a debate on the top here.

I think Danny gives some good advice, Erik. Be careful not to overfeed the newt. Unfortunately many cynops come in this condition or far worse. It's an EXCELLENT sign if this newt has been eating for you. Be careful that uneaten worms do not fowl the water!

Good luck!

I woud try some nightclawers, live ones and they are the food source staple if you are looking for the best food.
