My newt is shedding its skin in small pieces. I read in the FAQ section that this means that it's ill. what should I do?
thanks

There are lots of things that can cause this, but it is usually related to water quality. How long have you had the newt? What kind of newt, and is it aquatic? How do you maintain the water?

It's a pleurodeles waltl and i've had it for two years. It sheds this way since i have it. I change about 1/3 of the water every two weeks and i don't have a filter. Maybe it's because i sometimes leave food in the water...
thanks

I haven't had a Pleurodele waltl long enough to know if they shed all in one piece or not, but I suspect they do. You definately shouldn't be leaving uneaten food in the tank. I'd recommend a turkey baster to pull it out after feeding. And don't forget the partial water changes... Pleurodeles can tolerate pretty bad water for a while, but it will take its toll in the long run.
