Sirens and sand substrate

Hey all. From the care sheet I'm not quite sure if sand would work as a substrate for sirens. I assume it is kind of like axolotls and this would work but wanted some backup. Any thoughts? Large rocks scare me since I worry I might not get rocks that are large enough that they don't ingest them.

I wouldn´t recomend a layer of sand deeper than 2,5-3 cm, though....
