I have been having a problem lately with a marbled salamander (Ambystoma opacum) that I have had for about 3 years... apparently it suddenly became sick because I neglected to change the substrate in its tank for too long (or perhaps it was overheated, or possibly both factors combined). At first it was still alive but too weak to move. I isolated it in a separate small container with some paper towels but then noticed that it could move but was bloated, as well as not being able to move the hind limbs.
About a week later, it still looks bloated and can't move the hind limbs, but can move its head and front limbs, as well as wiggle its tail. At times the eyes look clouded.
I would appreciate any advice whatsoever about the exact nature of its illness and whether there is any way to save it, but the animal is very sick and I realize it probably will not be able to survive much longer.
