Hi Raj,
How much difference was there between the two pHs? Also how much water was changed and what kind of water did you use?

Thanks for your answer Ed, The difference was from about 6.4 to now it is right at 7.0. It was a three quarter water change. I used tap water. They are active again and seem to be ok. This may not indicate anything, but their eyes seem to be squinted and not very alert. Maybe I'm over analyzing. What do you think Ed?

Hi Raj,
I doubt that the problem here was the change in pH. I strongly suspect that the problem is more likely to be either thermal shock (difference in temperature between the tap water and the newts water) and/or exposure to chlorine or chloramine.
In general I do not usually recommend changing more than 30% of the water at any one time to help mitigate these problems.
The rapid recovery is a good sign.
