Sick fish

I have 2 N.v.v. with 4 platies in a 10 gallon tank. The platies I have noticed have a number of diseases and I have the treatment. i was wondering if I can treat the fish or if I have to move the newts to another tank. The medicine contains Formalin and Malachite green, and is commonly known as QuICK Cure.

What kind of sickness do the platies have(I'm assuming ich based on the medicine?) I would look around a bit for any underlying causes before trying to treat the fish. Perhaps the water quality isn't quite up to where it should be. Also, platies don't enjoy the low temperatures newts do and if they are stressed by something else this would increase the likelihood of disease. Often if the conditions are corrected the fish will fight off ich without any need of meds.

I don't think platies are the best choice for newt tanks though due to preference for warmer temps.

I got them only recently, so I am assuming the platies already had the disease and it is itch and also a small bit of fin rot. But the temp seems fine for the fish, they are active and breeding.

The newts should not be with the platys, period---NO species mixin'---makes things a lot easier!! Here is an informative link about different platy illnesses and how to treat them:

Also, when treating fish diseases, the first thing to do is raise the temperature, which your newts will NOT appreciate. Yes, move the newts, for many reasons.
