Hello, pretty new to lotls. I have 2, both male, in a 40 gal breeder. My tank has been cycled for 7months. I've had my 9 in blue gill dirty Lucy since February 2022 and my 8 inch wild type since the end of March. My wild is more sensitive to nitrates then my lucy, if they get to 20ppm he gets a fungus on his gills.

My wild about 3 weeks ago got a fungus on the tip of his tail (no injury to it). I tubbed him, it fell off in the first water change. I kept him tubbed for the next 2 days however I fell ill with covid so I put him back in the tank. Daily Water changes where absolutely exhausting. Fast forward a week later. I had mustard the strength to do a water change on the tank and I noticed a fungus bubble in his gills. So I tubbed him again. I've achieved removing the fungus on his gills however now he is spitting up these tiny white balls. Shaped circular but not cotton looking like gill fungus. Looks more spongy and dense.

Hes always been a finicky eater and wouldn't eat more then 6 pellets a day now I can barely get him to eat 1 a day.

I can not find any research on the substance he is spitting up. Can the "gill fungus" perhaps start on the inside of an axolotl instead of just gills? I'm at a loss on how to help this fellow. Hes still active, he climbs to the top of the hid in his tub. Hes eating tho it isn't much. He isnt floating or bloated.

I currently don't have any photos of said substance. Thanks so much for any suggestions in advance.

My tanks parameter (tho he is tubbed) ph 7, ammonia and nitrites 0, nitrates 10. I have a chiller and the temp stay 61-63 degrees.

try indian almond leaves, I've heard that they are anti-fungal. look up how to make indian almond leaf extract and research how much to put into your tank.

I use plain old aquarium salt, is holtfreters specific to lotls?
holtfreters is salts and minerals, if the water is hard enough then the minerals aren't as necessary but it does also contain salt.
what amount of salt are you using, normally 2g per litre should deter/clear fungus although 3g per litre can be used in bad cases.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
