My smallest axie is extremely sick and is in the fridge right now. I am new to the axie club and this is the 1st time one of my axolotls has gotten sick. How long should i keep him in the fridge? Should i use the same water as the water in his tank, or should i use new, clean water? The water in the bowl that he is in now is pretty discusting, with fecies and food particles floating around in it. Please help! My axie's condition(apparently from stress-related conditions)has gotten worse since i put him in the fridge. I am fearfull for his death. Also, when you change the water in the tank, do u replace it with tap or spring water? I heard tap water needs to be de-chlorinated, but i also heard spring water isn't the best choice either. My axies are about 3 months old and about 5in long. THANKS!

Im sad to say it, but my smallest axie has shown me no sign of life for a day now.

If the bowl's dirty, clean it out! You can keep them in the fridge for a week or longer. It depends on why you have them in the fridge to begin with. If you have them in there because you suspect tank problems, replace the water with clean, dechlorinated tap water. If you have them in there just because of a fungal infection, then using tank water is fine. While in the fridge, they'll probably not show any signs of life. It's cold in there and will slow down their metabolism so that they won't move much.

Kelly - Never let your axolotl sit in dirty water.
You should be keeping another container of dechlorinated tap water in the fridge to change the axolotls water with while it is in the fridge so it is the same temp.

If you are giving them salt baths you should use water that is the same temp too.

As Joan pointed out when axolotls are in the fridge they do slow down.

What was wrong with your axolotl that prompted you to put it in the fridge?
