Siamese Algae Eaters?

Hi, I heard that SAE were ok tank-mates for axies as they avoided the axies and the axies wouldn't be able to catch them?

Obviously, I'd need to quarantine the fish and make sure they were totally free of diseases before letting them into the tank.

I was wondering how big do they grow to (as I would prefer a little school of little fish rather than big ones) and apparantly they're often mistaken for Flying Fish... How do I avoid buying Flying Fish that I thought were SAE??

If SAE aren't good, can anyone recommend ANY fish at all that won't breed in uncontrollable amounts (I don't have a huge other tank for breading, just a 30x30cm one) that won't bug my axie?

axies prefer to be alone. mixing species doesnt work well and can end in death for both animals concerned. see if you can find a post from sylar, she had SAEs in her tank and they caused great problems, nearly killed her axies

sucking fish can develop a taste for the slime coat and some have spines they can stick out which can get lodged in the axies throat if eaten.

fish like white cloud mountatin minnows can work BUT fish are a risk, they can nip axies gills and if eaten can pass on nasties they might have to your axies. shrimp have been used but dont count on them staying in there, they will get eaten sooner or later. snails have been used, mixed results on that one.

A 30x30 tank? you only have one axie in that? Thats ok them but i would look into upgrading.

SAE are just as bad as any other fish. AND a school of them is even worse. My LFS has a tank with SAE and they said they wouldnt touch the axies but theire axies have no gills, poor axies

. Plus in a 30x30 tank with an axie and some fish, man thats BAD for both the bio-load ans amount of livable space. Thats like me shoving you 2x3m room with 5-10 little kids, plus with no windows or doors, BYE BYE, lol.

if you want to know an answar to tank mates or them, the answear is NO. One of the only things you can have is ghost shrimp or other such shrimp as they wont touch the axies and may occasionaly become a snack. NO yabbies as they will harm the axies alot!

Ohohoh, I mean a 30 x 30 tank for breeding/keeping uneaten fish in! My axie tank is larger

Ok thanks for the advice, I think I'll just stick to no tank mates.

Siamese Algae eaters are less aggressive than Chinese algae eaters (which is what i had). SAEs are good for community tanks but are tropical! if you really want to mix species get white clouds which like cold water. I have white clouds which have never nipped on the axies gills and the axies eat them when they are hungry, but they breed fast enough to sustain the food supply.
