my female japanese FBN has been trieng to eat the male;is this something they do before they mate,or are they hungry?(ive been feeding them 1/3 of a cube of bloodworms each a day, and m is 4 in and f ~5 in)

It's not related to mating. Maybe she is eating his shed skin? Or just hungry?

When i looked at te male after hed been ''assaulted''he had skin comeing of him but i think that was from when she bit him.and she nearly had his whole head in her mouth.

I once had a female nearly consume a small male, only his head was poking out. This was because while cleaning their tank I moved them into a small temporary one. I made the mistake of feeding them during this time. In a large tank the smaller newts can usually swim away from feeding frenzies whereas in small ones they can't.

When I picked up the female she regurgitated the male. No harm done to either one other than the female was exhausted and the male became very anxious.

thats almost exactly what happend to mine! because my female is 0.5/1in bigger than the male!
