Hey all
just a heads up i want to ship most of burritos eggs to buyers and i was just curious about how to do so in this weather
should i pack a handwarmer with the eggs? i shipped them before but this was back in march
any precautions i should take given the temps?

NNNOOOOOO! If you pack them with a hand warmer you will cook the egss and kill them.
If you pack the eggs with plenty of insulation - polystyrene, bubble wrap - and in a vial of water they should be fine.

Even better, ship them overnight with a courier who is licensed to carry live animals, list them as live amphibian eggs.

The main precaution you should take is good communication with the recipient. Where are their packages delivered (specifically, the size/shape of package you plan to send)? Indoors or outdoors? What are the high/low predicted temperatures at the receiving end? Will they be home when the mail comes? Etc. You need to prevent all possible ways that the package could freeze from sitting too long at the receiving end.

I agree, do not use any sort of heat pack. You can extend the time the package can spend in the cold by including a pack of blue-ice, but start it at room temp, not frozen. The downside to this is it will make the package heavier, thus postage will cost more.

My advice with the US postal service is to mark the package "perishable, do not freeze", but I wouldn't mark it as live animals.

i will have them held at the local PO so they arent sitting out in the cold
