Hello, I have a 55 gallon tank with three axolotls. I realized that I am utilizing the ground space, but not so much any of the space above. There's a gap between where the highest hides/ornaments end and the top of the tank. Does anyone use shelves for their axies to sit on, and if so, how did you create them, and do your axies actually use them?

Some people use soap dishes, the ones with suction cups on them. And there's some shower caddy things too that people use and put plants and things in.

Mine like to lurk in the taller plants. I have seen turtle docks used before.

Ohhh I like that idea! Do you have an idea of what plants might be small enough to place in the holes of a shower caddy? :)

I have a clear soap dish with moss balls in. Foley uses it as a toilet which is great for my daily clean up

I think a few people have used moss balls and...elodea? I'm not sure though. Moss balls definitely though.

I have plastic corner shower caddies with suction cups to stick it to the tank wall, they are quite large and flat and see through so i just put sand on them so it creates shadows on the bottom of the tank and the axies can see it and swim to it and it looks more natural :D

In the other i have it right near the surface of the water and my pothos plants roots sit on it, so the axies cant nibble them but they still get water.

Yes you could use moss balls or elodea, or even grow moss all over them so they look grass like.
Or there is the option of siliconing rocks/pebbles/fake plants to them for a more permenant look :p

Nice idea! I've been thinking about adding some shelves or layers to my tank, might have to try that!
