A friend of mine moved away and gave me a bunch of her old aquarium things. Included were some old bottles of various brands of chlorine/chloramine removers. I'm sure they're not more than ten years old, but they may be 5 + . I don't see an expiration date, but does anyone know if they are capped tightly, do they lose effectiveness?

Also, if you are supposed to add two drops per gallon but you had difficulty regulating the flow, and maybe you added 5 drops a gallon most of the time, would that be bad for the tank? (i.e. the tank's denizens)? Thank you.

Hey Dawn,
I cannot answer the first part of your question about shelf life however the nurse in me would discard it if it was 10 years old. I have not measured out drops of dechlorinator in years. I usually just give a short squirt into a bucket that is filling with water as I do partials.

I forgot to mention that dechlorinator is much cheaper at Lowes and Home Depot. They sell it for koi ponds in fairly large bottles for around 7.00.
