Hi guys!
I finally found a pet tiny pet store that swears they don't do outside of the country imports and their fire belly newts looked all nice and fat, instead of the skeletal shadows I am used to see in big-name-petstore. The guys were swimming lazily about and the manager fed them in front of me to reassure me that they were not stressed much.
I took the risk to take 2 of them home yesterday at about 2pm. This morning when I turned the light on in the tank for the first time, it looked like my most inquisitive one was shedding?! I thought they needed to be in for WAY longer then that to start shedding.
As my first newt experience turned out to be 2 dead newts after only 4 days, I am stressing about everything they do. They have been hiding either in the cave that's in there or in a densely packed bunch of Hydrilla. My husband said he thinks he saw them eating some bloodworms I put there this morning and one of my ghost shrimp tail is really messed up too as they seem to be chasing them. So far they are (or at least the chubby one is!) much more active then the other guys.
I wish I could take pictures but as they are still getting used to the tank, it's impossible to do.
So is the shedding, or at least what seems to be that, normal?!
