Hey all,

I just bought my 1st FBN about a month ago. When I first got her home, she was eating everyday, then about a week ago, she just stopped.

She hasn't eaten anything since, I've tried live worms, crickets, and frozen pellets I got from the store.

Can anyone suggest something else??

I would not worry too much at this point. Many times petshop animals will eat quite a bit when first brought home. Often this is the first time since capture that a less stressful feeding opportunity has arisen. In any case, once settled it is not uncommon in my experience for an otherwise well fed animal to refuse a few a few meals. You should offer food no more than three times a week at this point. If it continues to refuse then you may need to re-evaluate the environment. How are you keeping it (tank size, design, filtration, water temperature, etc)? Are you mixing any other animals in with it? Just some factors to consider.

Hey Chip,

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I have her in a 10 gallon tank all by herself. I have some places for her to hide, and using a filter, and the temp of the water is right around 70 degrees.

I'm thinking this may be apart of it considering the tank I got her from was filled with other newts and about half the size.

I'll keep you updated on her eating status.

She may have been eating daily to make up for the starvation conditions during import/sale. And now she's reached the point where her reserves are built back up and she doesn't need to eat as much. Did you make any changes to the tank before she stopped eating? Are you doing partial water changes regularly? It's probably not a serious problem, as she was eating well before.

Yeah I'm changing her water on a normal basis.

Thanks all for your help.

I think she's gonna be ok...I feel like a new parent who doesn't have a clue what to do...haha

This is the best advice to listen to, in my opinion. I wouldn't worry. Good luck!
