I thought you may lke an update on Tummi, the Spotted Salamander who was not feeling well a week and a half ago.

After four days in the fridge then one more day when I was afraid she would get too hot, I had a lot of fun making the perfect terrarium for her based on info from this site.

Well she loves it. :D

I read on the forum about misting at night and waiting around to see then come out, and I misted, and lo and behold, she came out, sloooowly checkin out the water dish... and the moss... and the rocks... and then in the morning, it looked like she had an active night cause she was covered in dirt.

All this time tho, I tried to feed her twice last night, but nothing, the worms that would have been dinner are still hapily living in there I a sure.

But this morning she was still hanging out at around 10 am, so I tried it again, with a nice small red earthworm.

She took her time, but snapped it up!

Yay!

She loks a little thin, (not very thin) and stil a little wrinkly, but eating is a good sign. ;)

Thanks for all your advice and even the old threads - this site did so much to help.

JK

Glad to hear good news, hope she keeps up with eating!

She looks less wrinkly after eating.

The cage is maintaining a cool 60-70C very well, so I am happy about that. (I filled 1/3 of a 10 gallon tank with ice for her.

Gonna try again today...

hello.. i have my first spotted salamander too today, i want to ask, how do you feed it, do you release the worm? or feed him right in front of his face? and what is appropriate size meal for salamander, mine is about 3,5 inches.. thx all

woww.. he eat his first breakfast too this morning.. hehe i gave him an earthworm in front of his face.. and snap!.. :D

So sorry I didn't see your post.

I hope your sally keeps doing good. I just try to get the smallest worms I can find and she has been able to take them all down. :hat:

Not doing so well now though, does not seem to want to eat, but I am not sure if she found the 3 worms who are roaming around though.

Just don't get your sally too warm - nothing above 70C - that is what hurt my little girl. :(

hello jkoz.. haha it's ok

i gave my sally a worm half size his body.. and he can take it with no problem, very fast... yeah i had a worm roaming around too, i dunno if he ate them or not.
it's pretty warm in indonesia, because we had a tropic climate, so i place my sally in my bedroom and with a reef fan, i can keep my tank stable at 25-26 C, and in the night the temperature drop to 18 C, because i use an air conditionered in my room.. his doing okay though every three days i gave him a worm .. i hope your sally gonna be ok, does your sally look skinny? if not maybe he ate the worm that roaming around.

sorry my english is not good. thehe

drroboky... Keep your tank a little cooler....

Your english is good! 20C is the key....

Mine is doing great now. I think the problem was the worms I was feeding her.

I went outside and found her two slugs and she looks great after eating those.

I think there was something wrong with the worms, I opened them to feed her a few days ago and they were all kinda dead!

Strange because they were not that old.

It may have been part of the problem the whole time!

So pay attention to the food source...

Yeah, keep your tank at 20C or below to be safe. ;)
