Hi all!
I've 7 ensicauda popei (4 juveniles and 3 adults)...I'd like to know from someone who breed/bred them how I could distinguish the males from the females among the adults specimens.
an other question:
Now they are in a 60liters acquarium with bare bottom, some rocks and many plants (elodea,Ceratophyllum and Fontinalis)...the temperature is 21°Celsius and they have 9 hours of light...is this set-up right?how could I induce them to breed?
thanks a lot
bye
Leo

Hy Leo,

the tails of adult males are shorter or even equal long then the body to head length, the tails of adult females are longer. The males have a bigger cloak.
Breeding: 8 hour light in winter, 15 hours in summer; 15 - 18 °C in Winter, 24 °C in Summer.
Lot of feed in spring. Then you can have breedings in spring and autumn.

Now the adults are at 20/21°C with 8 hours light...within two/three months I'll give them 15hours...hope to breed them this spring...

Hi Leo,
that's fine!
I never tried to hold the ensicauda at 20 °C in Winter, but my be it is o.k.
Let me know the result.
