Okay, I've posted twice before about my axie, and the general consensus was that I had a female. So I gave her a female name. Now, at ~18 months, it appears I may have a little boy on my hands. Every time I try to find a comparable cloaca photo, I get confused. Couple that with my axie changing it's mind every other day (sometimes the cloaca looks swollen and sometimes it doesn't) and you get one unsure axie momma. Thoughts from this updated photo?

TIA!

Geez... I'm a little unsure, but it looks more like a male to me.

The bulge is visible from above, I'm gonna say male. Some females have a bit of swelling when they need to poop or when gravid, but not usually to the point where the lump is visible from above.

Yeah it looks like a Male.

I would say male; females should have a little bump, but no big swelling. Also, I have noticed my males "swelling" and then returning to normal throughout the day. My vet says it is hormonal (yes, took them to the vet for it!).

How old/large is the axolotl? Looks like a developing male, possibly, if the animal is a juvenile, but if the animal is several years old and that's all that is there, I would guess female. Does that make sense? And can the "bulge" be seen from above? Adult males are quite obvious from above as well. Females have a sleek narrowing from the legs to the tip of the tail- no bumps. But again, in a juvenile or small male (I have a rescue that is small for his age and thus underdeveloped so far, but definitely male) it can be tough to tell. May need more time.

I believe he is around 6 months old, I acquired him in September. He is still developing so I still need to wait? I was planning on breeding them so I wanted to know what sex to get next. The bump is just barely visible from the top, but that may be because he is on an angle.
Thanks!
