Here are photos from the top of my 12 popei juveniles. I would greatly appreciate any input on each of the sexes. These guys are between 7 and 8.5 cm long at the moment. I need to move 4 on to new homes or home, hence why I want to sex them. Thanks for the advice.

I don't think to be able to sex them only with this kind of pic John...I can only say that most of times even juvies have longer tails if females...but can't tell this only looking at these photos...I'd only say that n°1,5,7 and 12 seem to be females for me, while N°8,9 and 11 could be males...but I am not sure, sincerly!
good luck sexing them;-)

bye

Hi Leo,

Thanks for that feedback. I understand it's hard to say but I would like opinions to compare with my own. I have already evaluated most of them myself but I won't share my opinion until I hear a few more. By asking you guys for opinions it helps me to know if I'm probably right or probably wrong.

Here are my semi-educated guesses... I suppose there won't be a prize given for correct answers will there

I had a Japanese visitor (Mr. Masai) over today, somebody who has long kept this species, and here are his guesses:

1) F
2) M
3) M
4) M
5) M
6) M
7) F
8) F
9) M
10) M
11) M
12) ?

Some of them he was pretty sure about, others he was not so sure. His guesses were based on the length of the tail relative to the body, the thickness of the tail...and gut feeling.

I won't give my own guesses as I'm not very good about sexing anything other than humans

I will say though that numbers 7, 8 and 9 are absolutely stunning! Some of the others are pretty striking as well. Wonderful!

Thanks guys.

Tim - how does thickness of tail differ between the sexes? And please thank your friend. 7-12 are from the group I received as eggs nearly a year ago (7, 8 and 9 being the most highly coloured of the original metamorphosing group, which became 6 when I passed some on to Mike East).

Well, Tim's friend wins the prize. I think he got all except 1 right - I have mostly males!
