How long should I have the water out?
Right now I have it sitting on a window sill inside.

Sorry if this question is posted somewhere else on the site could you tell me,If it is I'll delete this post.

Thanks

48 hours is good if your water treatment company uses chlorine. Make sure that it is uncovered. If they use chloramine, then you should use a water conditioner to get rid of it.

If you aerate the water vigorously with an airstone you can speed up the process. Also, when you fill the bucket or whatever, let the water run fast and from a good height - this will also allow some of the chlorine to dissipate. Best of all, use clean, unpolluted rainwater collected in an aged container - I have to say that I am getting more and more concerned about what goes in tapwater.

Good luck,

Chris

From what I have heard, most cities use chloramine now which does not evaporate out and so simply letting water "air out" is useless. Check with your local city water supply to make sure they're not using chloramine first.

Unpolluted rainwater is pretty much nonexistant today. Most rainwater today contains nitrates, and other organics that have become suspended in the atmosphere.
