Hello, I'm planning on getting a few axolotl juvenials in a month or so and I'd like to put some live plants in the tank to help oxygenate the water and remove nitrites. I've heard that Java moss and Java fern are good plants to use but I don't know if there are any in my area.
If I were to go to my local pet store and buy live aquarium plants from them, what would I need to do to make sure they're safe to go in my tank? I know you need to quarantine them, but for how long and what am I looking for to know that they can go in the tank?

I really want to make sure i do this right the first time.

Really anything low light/low temperature. Anubias apparently is good but expensive(once the temperature goes above freezing im going to order some online) moss balls apparently axies like rolling it around so i bought one.
The lady at the pet store told me really all the plants i could ultimately put in the tank (the ones that were for sale there anyways) as long as there was adequate lighting. She said the water had a chiller so temp was no problem.
So many plants have species names and its all so confusing. I avoided plants for the longest time but i think im slowly getting it
I swear im more afraid of taking care of plants then animals! Haha
As far as quarantining then i think its just to make sure you arent bringing back hitchhikers to your tank. Ifyou bought some plants to help chcle the tank and waited to put axies in im sure youd be okay there. Really i had never even thought about quarantining plants but i guess it makes sense!
Im still looking for plants that float at the top. Cant find any around here so i am thinking about getting some duckweed online as well in the spring. Itgrows like crazy and it helps keep the light lower for your axies since it grows on the surface :) and it helps keep your tank balanced. Win win i think!

I have a lot of elodea in my tank and a few planted plants that look like grass(I don't know it's name haha) but the elodea is great as you can leave it floating and the axies hang out in it or you can plant it if you prefer
