Ok so i'm in the process of acquiring a Juvie and just wanted to double check that I'm all set up. Ive kept aquariums and various reptiles for years but this is my first foray into Caudates.

At the moment I have a standard 10 gal with an internal power filter, 1.5" fine sand, and a large gauge metal mesh lid (cat proof from the outside and Axie proof from the inside).

I tossed a couple of my community fish in it a month and a half ago and it has cycled nicely. I have a couple of little cave hides and now I want to plant it up a bit. I know floating plants are ideal but what other cold water, low light, low fertilizer plants would you recommend?

Cheers!

Java fern does well in low light and I have had success with elodea left floating about.

Sand can cause impaction risks to juvies 5" and under, perhaps use a jar or bowl to feed them :)

Just a little tip 1.5" of sand can cause anaerobic gas build ups and axies dont like this.
Try to keep it 1" or less and give it a gentle stir every water change :D
