Hey Guys!
I bought some play sand from the hardware store that said "Screened, Cleaned, and Rinsed on the front of the bag. As Im starting my first axie tank,I started getting the sand prepared. I cleaned half of it and little dirt came out. So, my silly self thought I could just pour the rest of the bag into the tank. I filled up the tank with water and it was super murky. today I vacuumed out all the water and filled it up half way. It was still super murky. So I started just vacuuming all the sand out, attempting to clean it the right way. If anyone could help thatd be great. Should I do anything else?
Thanks!

No matter how clean the sand says it is it will always be dirty the first time you use it. You don't need to vacuum out the sand just rinse it in the tank by doing tons of 100% water changes over the course of a few days until you notice it getting clearer. it'll take a few hours to settle down completely though.

If you have the time, I would dump all of the sand into a bucket and carry it outside. Run a hose to the bucket and stir, stir, stir until the water runs clean and then dump the water. Do this a couple of times. Once you put it back into the tank, it will still be cloudy, but the dust will settle in a couple of days.

Thanks Guys!
So by putting the hose in the bucket and letting it over flow, sand wont come out with the overflowing water?

Nah most will stay I and all the dust and clay will come out. It's the easiest way if you have the means

Make sure that the bucket is as clean/new as possible. If it has had cleaning supplies in it, you shouldn't use it by any means.

Awesome! I will finish that up and (possibly) start cycling tonight!
Very excited!

Cycling pushed back to tomorrow, but I have all the time in the world! When should I place a wanted ad? I feel like I should have an established breeder before the time comes. This is my first Axie so I honestly have no idea about getting them shipped in. Thanks Guys!

I just got my first axolotl yesterday! If I may suggest, I bought him from an awesome breeder, and her company is called Axolotl Factory. Great prices, amazing service, and perfect axies! The one she sent me is gorgeous, with perfect limbs. (His name is Toothless! Haha) The package and packaging was awesome, with thermal wrap and an ice pack. Definitely recommend her! :ufo:
