I plan on getting a larger tank. I found a tank at a local pet shop that is 30 inches wide (seems perfect) for only around $40. If I just transfer most of the water from my current tank, possibly the filter, sand and plants will i need to wait for a cycling period or can i transfer my axies shrimp instantly? Thanks for help in advance!

I would say that if you transfer most of your existing decor you should be fine, as the bacteria that develops during cycling is attached to the plants, filter etc.

Personally, i would do a parameter check and a small water change daily for about a week after everything/everyone is moved over.

It will work just fine. In essence, by switching everything over to the new tank all your really replacing is the glass. A little hint, I would add the old tank water (only about 75%) to the new tank first. After you start moving decorations and sand around it will dirty up the water and by removing the water first you avoid putting all that nasty junk in the new tank.

Great. Thanks for the tips. I have a 4-5 inch axie in about a 2ft long tank and he seems to already be outgrowing it. I can just see how much happier he would be in a larger tank. I may also add another axie.

On a different note kind of; I have a piece of drift wood in the process of being water logged. If the wood is good (nothing bad on it or growing), would it be ok t throw the wood in with the new tank without an extended period of time of quarantining i guess?

Still need my previous question answered, but on the same note, I will post a picture of my wood because im not sure if the wood will be safe for my tank. How long does it take for wood to get waterlogged? Its been about 4 weeks and i dont seem to be making any progress.

I remember reading someone soaked drift wood for a year in order to get it completely waterlogged!
