Would anyone buy, or has bought live salamanders, or newts from companies like Carolina, or Wards because they do have some. Is this a good Idea? Carolina has good deals on Necturus maculosus.

I have bought from Ward's and I have to say, it is really all hit or miss. I have an Ambystoma maculatum I got from them that is great. On the other hand, I got some notos once and most of them died. I would really advise against it, especially for Necturus. Usually they are in pretty bad shape when coming from Bio supply companies. I'd look around the "for sale" section of the forum- on some occasions people have N.maculosus up for sale or trade; these would be in a much healthier state.

From what I've read, "hit or miss" is the best description for Carolina and Wards. You might get a healthy animal, or you might not. It would be better (for several reason) to collect your own animal from the wild than to buy from these places. A captive bred animal is better still.
