Scary

I was in the pet section of a local store- not a petshop- and this lady was asking about problems with her water. She wasnt using city water, just distilled, and not treating it at all. then wondered why her fish died.
she had - and i quote ' two buggy eyed goldfish and a frog. since the colors are injected and i didnt want an artificial colored frog, he has no color. i want another one'
she doesnt even know what kind it is? and is feeding it fish flakes.
no substrate. no plants. no place for the froggy to hang out, if he desires. "he doesnt need it. he just swims and comes up to get air"
I felt bad for the poor froggy- who has no place to rest or hide. no plants, nothing resembling his natural habitat.
AND she wants another one?!?!
i realize i dont know much about amphibians, but its scary to me how many see a neato animal in a shop and get it with NO clue how to take care of it.
i feel bad for her frog and thankful i found you guys!

Sounds to me like she has an African clawed frog, or a species quite similar, and if that's the case it's a fully aquatic species and does not require a resting place other than the bottom of the aquarium. What you have described does sound quite drab, however, and I would venture to guess this lady knows nothing about the nitrogen cycle and the importance of cycling the tank.
