Hello and welcome, Don't know about prawns, i feed mine worms and pellets.
If his eyes are black ( like lexus pictured) then its a leusistic not albino

Keep them pics coming

Cool nice setup, is he the only occupent?
-I think that the prawns thing is fine.
-Yes he dose look albino though I can't tell which group.
-Sorry I'm not good with names.

he is on his own, want him to grow abit before i get a friend, as he is a leusistic i shall name him leushus. what pellets do you feed? i have read that they should be fed every 3 days is this true,

Get him/her pellets from the axolotl colony, they're the best!

yes u should let him get much larger before u add him w/ a friend, unless they are they same size and u have them in a large tank, Also u should let him get comfy with the tank before u introduce another friend. They do need to be feed once every 2-3 days. Personly I don't feed pelets because its messy and they ofent cant find them. Adding to the fact that he/she is an albino( albinos tend to have eye probs, meaning that they are almost blind and can't see that well) makes that v ery hard for him to find the pelets, what I feed my juvies are bloodworms, or small home garden worms. He is also very cute and I think that u will be happy with this little tyk.

With him being only little i would feed him more often, I feed my adults every 2-3 days, I have one at the mo that is 3-4 inches and i feed him a little everyday. But that is me i would let others tell you what they do and then you decide

he is about 5 inches long so will try him with some food every day he just turns away if he doesnt want it,how old do you think he is,he has dark toes does that make him male? i cant stop looking at him he so funny, follows my finger round. he seems a lot easier to look after than horses no more trudging across muddy feilds in winter. cheaper to.

jordan- i saw him in a pet shop 2 weeks ago in a small gravel tank bright lights no shelter to hide in and lots of tapping on glass, not nice now he in huge tank mostly dark no gravel and only my face to put up with and i dont tap, so i figure he in a better place

If he is that size, i have 2 aprox that, and i feed every other day but it depends if he is a pig lol. Dark toes are meant to be a sign of sexual maturity not gender, that is more difficult, Males have a large bump where you would expect one!!?? Again see lexus. But it can be hard to tell until they are big.

Bless, they let go when they realise your not food, I like your setup mine used to have large pebbles on the bottom now i have sand ( see my tanks in the gallery i've just posted them). I found i swapped and changed all the time lol

Jenny, Would it not be a problem with sand, I know that they can swallow gravel, and sand is so much smaller.

Hi Isobel,

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on getting such a cutie, and well done for rescuing him, the conditions s/he was in were not good.

S/he is definitely a leucistic, not an albino. Albinos have no pigment in their eyes, whilst yours has black eyes.

The pellets people talk about are from a University in America, so they have to be shipped over here as far as I know.

I live in England too, I feed mine a staple of earthworms (which you can get at any bait shops), bloodworms (from frozen) and occasionally maggots or crickets.

What was the name of the shop you brought him/her from?

downtown at grantham, i give them their due it wasnt an overloaded tank at that time baytree seem to fill their tanks

Sand is easier to pass through the digestive system John. Good work saving him isobel!

Isobel - Welcome! Your little axie is a sweet pie! I also have two Leucistics

Was your tank pre-cycled before you put him in the tank? If not, it could pose some problems, but since you have just one Axolotl in the tank, watch the water conditions and levels carefully and make sure to test it with a water testing kit or take your water to your local petshop and see if they will test it free for you. Most will.

You want to be testing for:
Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0.0 - 20
PH 7. - 8

Cycling normally takes about a month, but the cycling can be harmful, so it would be best to remove him and keep him in a food safe container with fresh declorinated water and a lid poked with holes so that he can breath.

Let us know how he does, and we love to see lots of pictures of Axolotls!

Jordan - People in other countries cannot get the pellets from the Colony. I think that People in Canada can but that is all as far as shipping out of country goes. I mentioned this to you in another thread.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
